 Michael Welz is both President and Chief Investment Officer of USI Advisors, Inc. The Investment Advisory practice provides strategic investment consulting services to qualified retirement plans.
In his capacity as President and Chief Investment Officer, Michael oversees the development and execution of investment policies, market research, due diligence and portfolio management strategies for USI Advisors, Inc. Michael is dedicated to driving continuous improvements to the firm’s investment research and consulting process, seeking to produce the most effective investment solutions for the institutional marketplace.
Michael has been advising clients on all aspects of investment management for more than 17 years. In addition to taking a key role in asset allocation studies, asset‐liability modeling, manager selection and monitoring for defined benefit plans, he has incorporated the aspects of behavioral finance and specifically cognitive psychology into the consulting process for defined contribution clients helping participants boost their retirement savings. Michael started his professional career in 1996. Prior to joining USI Consulting Group, he was part of an Institutional Consulting Group at major financial firms from 2000 – 2005 and 2005 to 2010.
Michael earned a Master’s degree equivalent (Diplom Volkswirt) in Economics from the University of Cologne in Germany. Michael is also a frequent contributor to the Foundation and Endowment Money Management magazine. Industry education and designations include: FINRA administered Series 7, 31, 63 and 65; Chartered Financial Analyst® from the CFA Institute; Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst from the CAIA Association®; Certified Investment Management Analyst® designation from the IMCA; Investment Strategist Certificate and Alternative Investments Certificate through completion of advanced academic investment courses. Keeping current on important industry trends, Michael is member of several professional organizations including the CFA Institute, the Stamford CFA Society, the CAIA Association® and the Investment Management Consulting Association.
